About Us
Law Matters Story
8 years in June - the radio show started in June of 2016 and became a 501c3 in July of 2018.
Law Matters shares an interest in securing safe communities for all Tucson area residents and those of Southern Arizona. Law Matters weekly live one- hour radio show was created to open the lines of communication between law enforcement and the communities giving the listeners the opportunity to get answers from the source and law enforcement a platform rather than a misleading soundbite. We are not politically motivated; however, we will talk about the laws and policies that affect all of us. We bring all the different law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal on our live radio show. The information we provide is to create better informed communities, resulting in a safer Tucson, as well as all Southern Arizona, neighborhoods. We don’t have ads because the show is only one hour long. During our one, 2-minute break, we air PSAs for law enforcement, getting the messages from all the agencies out there. Our podcasts are on ITunes, Google Play, KVOI.com and the LawMatters1030.org websites and are listened to nationally by many.
We started this radio show in 2016, with no seed money, no business plan, no guidance, and no radio experience, just a wild idea to stop the inexcusable violence toward law enforcement as well as rising violence in general. Since that time, we have evolved into hosting educational events such as screenings of movies/documentaries, adding planned Q&A sessions afterwards with the legal authorities on the subject matter presented. These events offer educational opportunities providing awareness on topics such as sex and human trafficking, domestic violence, active shooter, illegal drugs, scams, border issues, gun violence, sextortion, modern slavery and the list goes on. These shows have helped countless people with drug addiction, targets of scams, and victims of other illegal and dangerous crimes.
While most of what we offer is free to attend, occasionally we need to charge a fee. Typically, those are courses earning certificates, or the continuing education classes where the presenter requires payment and travel expenses, i.e., we hosted a 7hr CE on the Psychological and Behavioral Characteristics of Sex Offenders that required a fee. Law Matters also offers an internship program for students interested in the criminal justice and/or communications arenas. To continue with both the live radio show and these unique educational opportunities for our community, we need your support.
Law Matters is operated by volunteers with a desire to achieve a common mission. Our donation requests are to support presentations; we have been asked to host documentary screenings on numerous topics, the most recent on sextortion, that would include law enforcement, medical professionals, with county or federal prosecutors available for Q&A. These presentations earn the attendees a CE, CLE or AZPOSt credit. And of course the purchase of airtime for the Law Matters live radio show on AM1030 KVOI radio every Sat. at 8am. Hosting all these activities requires location rentals, purchase of educational handout materials, marketing, licensing agreements, airtime, occasionally travel expenses for presenters, and of course event insurance in some cases.
